MID-SEGMENT GUESTS: Jennifer Mann

Ministry: Caregiving, chaplaincy

Part 1 of the 3-Part Series Why Old People are Grumpy

In episode 109 of the iRetire4Him Podcast, Jim and Bruce explore the seemingly simple question - “why are old people grumpy?” As you’ll hear in the show, grumpiness in retirees can be attributed to all sorts of things, including resistance to change, aches and pains, and the occasional memory slip. Bruce comically shares his own back pain ailments, turning him into a less-than-enthusiastic retiree.

The middle segment features a lively chat with Jennifer Mann, who shares her unexpected journey from finance to starting seminary (at age 58!), finding newfound purpose through caregiving. Amidst the grumpy conversation, Bruce introduces his upcoming book, Living the Fruitful Life, a guide to combat grumpiness with the Holy Spirit's help and apply the fruits of the Spirit to life's challenges. If you find yourself feeling grumpy these days, be sure to give this episode a listen and join us for the rest of the series!

Meet Your Host
Although Jim is not yet at retirement age, he and his wife Martha lived twenty years residing in 55+ communities in Florida. Their experience has highlighted the harsh reality of retirement in the United States, showing the discontent that can come when people lack purpose in their later years. Surrounded by parents in their nineties and friends in their sixties, seventies, and eighties, Jim and Martha find motivation in observing those who live out their faith in retirement, while also witnessing the frustration of those who do not.

Jim has been hosting the iRetire4Him Podcast for nearly five years, has spoken at conferences, and has co-authored the book iRetire4Him: Unlock God’s Purpose for Your Retirement, with his father-in-law. Although he currently Works4Him, he looks forward to Retiring4Him one day!
