Benedict of Nursia (480-547) aka Saint Benedict, was an Italian monk and the founder of the Order of Saint Benedict. He is famed in the Eastern Orthodox, Protestant Lutheran, Anglican Communion, and Catholic Churches. Benedictine monks celebrate two feast days for their founder—celebrating July 11 to honor his title as Patron Saint of Europe, and observing March 21 as the day he died. His twin sister, Scholastica (480-543), founded the Benedictine nuns. Her feast day is February 10.
