Papal Vault - 2 First Council of Nicaea: Meletius of Lycopolis

This Papal Vault episode looks at Meletius of Lycopolis, the Egyptian bishop whose power struggle with Alexandria helped create one of the major administrative problems addressed at the First Council of Nicaea. Steve explains how Meletius’ unauthorized ordinations, hardline position toward lapsed Christians, and accidental connection to Arius turned a local church dispute into a council-level crisis. The episode shows that Nicaea was not only about theology, but also about authority, church order, and the growing overlap between Christian politics and imperial power.
