342. Lawrence, Saint or River?
Many place names throughout the continent were inspired by Christianity. For example, The mighty St-Lawrence River is the namesake of the early Christian, Laurence of Rome (225-258 AD). Saint Lawrence was one of the seven deacons of the city of Rome, under Pope Sixtus the Second, who were martyred in the persecution of the Christians that the Roman Emperor Valerian ordered in 258 AD. His annual Feast Day is August 10.
